I saved this book to read during the holiday weeks and I am so glad that I did. I am not sure I would have liked its neat and sappy story line conclusions as much during any other time of the year, but as a Christmas read it is very good. Half of the book follows Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in the years leading up to and during the Civil War. His life took a very tragic turn and as he deals with the consequences and the very real possibility of his son leaving to fight in the war, he struggles with the inspiration to create new poetry. The other part of the book follows a group of people in present day Boston, all connected through a children's church choir. All are trying to solve major life issues in time for the holidays. This book does wrap up a little too neatly but its emphasis on faith, helping others and overcoming life's hardships is a great way to celebrate the season.
